I got a cool email a while back from a guy named Bill. He was looking for a Hello Kitty sewing machine that would be a good Christmas present for his daughter who is a huge Hello Kitty fan, but was overwhelmed with the choices:
Hi,
I need some help from a Hello Kitty expert. My 22 YO daughter has been a Hello Kitty fan since she was a child. I would like to get her a Hello Kitty sewing machine for the holidays but I am unsure which one is authentic. There are so many in so many different colors this old man doesn’t have a clue.
My daughter knows but that would spoil the surprise if I asked her. I am respectfully asking you to share your Hello Kitty knowledge with a Hello Kitty ignorant old man. I would be eternally grateful to you if you would point me in the right direction!
Many thanks and have a great Hello Kitty Holiday!
Kindest regards,
Bill
A Hello Kitty sewing machine …why hadn’t I thought of that. The trusty sewing machine I had at home was conspicuously of the non-Hello Kitty variety. But what kind of sewing machine would be the best for a Hello Kitty fan like Bill’s daughter?
I went in search of Hello Kitty sewing machines. There was actually a nice selection out there, from simple beginner machines to ones with more features, all with their own adorable Hello Kitty designs.
After a lot of comparing, I ultimately chose the Janome 15822 Hello Kitty Sewing Machine. It had great reviews and the kind of features that most people are looking for in their sewing machine:
22 Stitches and a one-step buttonhole
Built-in needle threader
Free arm
Extra high presser foot lift
Accessory storage
Built-in needle threader ftw, just sayin. All these features and people’s reviews saying that it was a nice, solid sewing machine made me feel good that it wasn’t just a cheap machine with Hello Kitty designs on it or something.
But let’s face it, what do we Hello Kitty fans want in a sewing machine? Cuteness of course! And on this sewing machine the face of Hello Kitty is adorable as usual. But for me what took it through the roof in the cuteness department were the designs on the three knobs in front. The little cartoons of elements from Hello Kitty’s world –an apple, a flower, and a bow– are simple yet soooo cute.
This is a sewing machine that you’d never want to put a cover on because it’s so freaking adorable to look at. And it is the sewing machine sold by Sanrio, so it was definitely authentic like Bill was wanting.
Well, I knew I had a winner with the Janome 15822 Hello Kitty Sewing Machine so I sent an email to Bill about it. He thanked me for my time and said he was going to buy the sewing machine right away before they ran out on Amazon during the Christmas season.
I felt really happy to have been able to help, but a few weeks later I saw a new email in my inbox from Bill. Uh-oh, had the sewing machine not been cute enough? He wrote:
Hi Anita,
Just wanted to let you know that our daughter was absolutely delighted with the sewing machine! She screamed when she saw it, I thought the neighbors were going to call the police!
We can’t thank you enough for the effort you put into this for us.
Regards,
Bill
Reading that email made my day! Happy Hello Kitty sewing to all :0)
